Faithfulness of the Lord Remains
LYRICS
Ageless, ancient of days
Timeless, in all your ways
Endless, measure of grace
The faithfulness of the Lord remains
When the darkness takes the breath from my soul
And my heart breaks in two
Let the morning bring me words of your love
I put my trust in you
Send an answer to me quickly, Oh Lord
When I don’t know what to do
Rock of Ages that was cleft for me
I will hide myself in you
SCRIPTURE
Answer me quickly, O Lord, my spirit fails; do not hide thy face from me, lest I become like those who go down to the pit. Let me hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for I trust in thee; teach me the way in which I should walk; for to thee I lift up my soul. Psalm 143: 7-8
NOTES
“What a broad world to roam in, what a sea to swim in is this God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is eternal. He antedates time and is wholly independent of it. Time began in Him and will end in Him. To it He pays no tribute and from it He suffers no change“- The Pursuit of God, AW Tozer
Sea and Sky
LYRICS
Give thanks to the Lord, all the earth
Give thanks to the Lord, sea and sky
Give thanks to the Lord, all the earth
‘Cause he heard our cry
In the dark, in the formless void
In the stillness before the world began
You spun a cloth of stars across the barren sky
So your life could become the Light of man
You are patient as a mountain stream
That carves a canyon through solid stone
In the fullness of time You sent your only Son
To save me and call me as Your own
Floods of forgiveness fill the ocean's depths
Mercy is a strong and steady rain
The cadence of the waves never ceases praise
Yet You hear me when I whisper Your name
SCRIPTURE
The humble have seen it and are glad; you who seek God, let your heart revive. For the Lord hears the needy, and does not despise His who are prisoners. Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Psalm 69:32-34
NOTES
Read Romans 8 and see creation in a new light, as it waits with eager anticipation for Christ’s return. The images of this song are vivid memories of mine: stargazing from the desert of New Mexico, white water rafting on the Natahala, growing up near the beach in Florida.
Every Ray That Shines
LYRICS
Your name rises high above the angels
Far beyond the finest veil of stars
All of creation bows down before you
Worships how wonderful you are
Every ray that shines of the glory of God
Reflecting His compassion and joy
The strength of the mountain that holds up the sky
And shouts to the wind of your love your love
Streams of your mercy could not be contained
They go rushing to the thirsty ground below
To be dashed on the rocks whose peril was meant for me
'Til nothing but the purest water flows
How great a salvation
Don’t neglect this salvation
SCRIPTURE
And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact presentation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When he made purification for our sins He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High; having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. Hebrews 1:3
NOTES
One of our favorite family vacation past-times is to take waterfall hikes in the mountains, where the streams are clear, clean and cold. If you catch the right time of day, the sunlight shimmers off the fallspray and flows over the multi-colored stones.
Draw Near
My soul is poured out like water
My empty heart is broken clean in two
Sin kept so silent while I wasted away
Now I’m layin’ it all down before you
Draw near to you
Draw near to me
I remember your presence in the mountains
Where water falls and deep calls to deep
Quiet songs whisper in the evening
I had found a hiding place in your keep
Send your light, send your truth
Lead me to your holy place
There my heart is whole again
And I am filled with joy
SCRIPTURE
Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners and purify your hearts, you double minded. James 4:7-8
NOTES
Although these lyrics come directly from Psalms 38, 42, and 43, they capture struggles from my life like I’m watching them play back on film. If you are in this place right now, know you are not alone. Meditate on Hebrews 4:13-16. He can make all things new.
